Dear Mother
I guess you have received my first letter by now although I don’t expect a answer for three or four weeks yet. I dident cable because Pat said he would let you know I had arrived. well we have had a little excitement we have had a couple of air raids and it is certainly quite an experence we go into air raid shelters or trenches and when they drop the bombs you can hear them screeching through the air it really give you a helpless feeling we lay flat on our face and when they land the really make a terrific noise and it makes you want to crawl into the earth but we don’t mind it when it is over it is all forgotten and we think nothing more of it we have had quite a few alarms but know bombs been droped although we have to go to shelters last night we had on and we were in the shelter for six hours. One good this is we get a warning quite a few minutes before any planes reaches here.
well I guess I can leave that aside and write about something pleasentr well I am having a good time here we don’t do very much as far as drill is consernid we can get late passes and week-end passes there are lots of little towns around here and we often go to them ther are always dances going on somewhere and the people are very sociably its really [wondrf?] the way the people take thing they seem to think nothing of the air raids and if Hitler thinks he can brake the moral of the people here and the canadians he sure has a another thing comning and if he thinks he can take the British Isles he crasy
