My Dear Maudie:-

Just a few lines in answer to your most welcome letter which I received about a week ago, I would have answered sooner but I thought I would wait for a few days to see if the parcel would come but it has not arrived as yet and goodness only knows when it will get here but there are parcels by the truck load coming up from the base every day so it will likely turn up some time as I have got every thing that has been sent so far

I had a letter from Annie yesterday & she was telling me you were not a bit like you used to be, that you were all for my people and that you would hardly go out with her at all now I hope you will go out with her some times for I would not want to be the cause of any trouble among your friends, but “gee” I would hate to have to give you up for any of them. I simply will not do it. So there you know my mind but I guess you are good and lonesome since Mary went away and I guess you had some time getting them away. I think that is what I will do when I come back I will miss the train every day for about a year ha ha “gee” you sure have a good start but what will you do if Mary should come back for those things I’ll bet you’ll hate to part with them especialy the can of powder ha ha. that was some dream you had. but you don’t need to worry you will never see me with another girl while you are around for nothing can part us only death & even then only for a time. for if we can’t be to-gether on earth we will surely be to-gether in Heaven but don’t worry Sweet Heart we will be having good times in Clinton yet. it is just 6 months yesterday since we sailed from Montreal and I must say I have saw some strange sights since then but never a day goes by but I think of you and you may never know how much I have worried because we had to part but every thing will come right some day. Say do you realy think that your Father & Annie imagine we were Married when I wrote to Annie & called her Auntie I was only fooling I never thought any more about it & I hate to try keeping her going for fear it may get you into more trouble and I don’t want to do that for I would rather die than be the cause of bringing you trouble but we should worry (eh) Say do you think for a minute I am as big as Bill? but I guess if he could wear the drawer’s I will be able to get into them & any old kind of mitts will be good enough for me. well I think I will close for this time and go to sleep as I am already in bed or at any rate under the blankets for we are billeted in an old barn and it is mighty cold. now don’t worry any more about me for I am feeling fine now be sure and take care of yourself. I am your only and always. remember me to your Father & Will, with

Love to all
Tom.
