“SALVED FROM SEA” STAMPED ON LETTER
Contains News ’n’ Nonsense Sketch From Telegram Sent to Soldier
“Salved From the Sea” was stamped on the envelope of a letter mailed in late May, in Toronto, when it finally reached Pte. D.G. Duncan, with the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps, “Somewhere in England.”
Pte. Duncan has returned the letter and the enclosure it contained to his father, John A. Duncan, 16 Currie avenue, who had mailed them originally.
The enclosure was a clipping of Harry Hall’s “News ’n’ Nonsense” sketch that had appeared in The Telegram; the one which proved it was “impossible to forget the war situation for one moment, says business executive”.
“We have sent others of these sketches overseas,” said Mr. Duncan. “They give the boys a good laugh.”
