Mr. and Mrs. John R. Merrill heard this week from their son, Pte. F. C. Merrill, who was wounded in action and is now at Shomecliffe where he is orderly for a doctor. The letter is dated October 7th and is as follows:

Dear Father and Mother:
Just a few lines to let you know that I am O.K. and am feeling fine. I have just come back from London. I was down for a week and I expect to go down to Margate next week for a few days. I am going to Ireland the latter part of next month with the doctor for a couple of weeks.
I am sending you a photo of a chum of mine (Chas. Dawson of Norwood) and myself. He was wounded at Langemarck and he is here in camp now. I carried him for nearly a mile under heavy shell and machine gun fire to get him away safely. He got wounded twice while I was carrying him. He could not walk but I got him out and he is now O.K.
