My Dear Mother:-

I wrote to you last night but as I afterwards received your letter of June 26th and your parcel of June 4th, I'll write you a short note and enclose it in the same envelope. The parcel was just right, the reading material was just in time for up here you cannot get any. The Cake tasted pretty darn good to one who has eaten army rations for a period. I won't be able to put on the underwear until I get back again for I'm so dirty and my clothes are already well inhabited. That powder you sent seems to make them hungrier, it doesn't seem to annihilate them at all.

I am glad you had such a nice visit to Kincardine and I know you'll enjoy having Nellie home with you during the holidays. So Bob Lawson managed to shirk it, did he? Quite an honorable achievement. It's so nice to hear the news from around home and you may be sure the first papers pulled out were the ‘Times'. The Grit (?) which I haven't seen since I was a little shafer [sic] at home is good reading indeed. I miss the S. E. Posts which haven't been coming lately. Oh, yes, the dollar bill was in the letter alright.

Things are going very good. There is not much to do. The sun has been nice and hot today and it is quite enjoyable sitting out in the open.

Well, I'll close now. With very best wishes and love from

Yours
