October 5th 1918
My Dear Mother:-
I am in Scotland in the above city but do not know whether or not I will stay as my impressions are not real good. It has rained continually since I arrived last night and accommodation is terribly hard to get. Pte. Soldiers cannot go to good hotels and the Clubs etc. are overflowing with Yanks etc. on leave. I may go down to Glasgow tomorrow or up to Aberdeen.
Oh! Yes, I received your letter of Sept 5th with $2 bill enclosed. On same day I had one from Nellie and another from Aunt Lizzie. I am glad that Nellie likes her new school. It is too bad Charlie cannot be back to school but if he does his work at home, well he is doing no small part towards bringing this terrible business to an end. It surely can't last much longer and then when its all over we'll all get back to our normal modes of everyday life.
I had a letter from "Norm" Storrey also the other day. He is left by himself now that Reid and I are gone. I will write you a longer letter tomorrow if I do not depart.
Yours
Frank
