Thursday, October 4th.
It is too "dud" to go out even, rain and wind, and such a depressing day. We are in huts now and ever so much more comfy. If the weather keeps bad today I hope to have time to fix my place up a bit and make it more cheery. Am going to have a sort of an alcove and put pictures up, etc. There are five of us in one hut.
Later - October 4th.
I have had to fly, in spite of the rain and wind and only came down about half an hour ago, and have just finished tea. I have never been up in such trying weather, and it was all I could do to control my machine. However, the work was very important and had to be done. This is guest night here and several big ducks are doming so I'm going to get dolled up now for the occasion.
We have our Mess completed now and are very comfortable, good fires and comfy chairs, etc. It's nice these cold mornings when we fly at dawn to have our tea and toast in front of the fire before going up.
It's terribly cold above 10000 ft. on the face. I am going to wear a complete mask of fur as flying at 120 miles per hour makes the cold much worse.
In diving on a Hun I was travelling at 210 miles an hour - talk about sensation, I thought my bus would smash up!! I love flying but it's a trying business here. One has to be in good condition or the strain is hell.
