Orders to mobilize were received by the officers commanding units and recruiting commenced in earnest. Our work consisted of medical examination of all recruits, at which I helped the doctors, Col. Elliot and Major D.A. Clark, drilling squads both in marching and gun drill, and lectures on gunnery.
