Mr. Wm. McCallister, Port Hope, has received the following brief letter from his son, Walter, who is at present in France.

February 15, 1915

Dear Dad:
Just a line or so to let you know that I am O.K. I am not allowed to let you know where I am. At present, with forty others, I am billeted at fanner's barn, and the rest of the boys are at different barns. We are within sound of the guns. There was a scrap on this morning as the guns were going full blast. We expect to be able to take a hand in the sport in a few days.

The barns we are in now once sheltered 2,000 Germans, and there are 1,000 of them buried a short distance from here. The people tell us some very interesting stories of what took place when the Huns came through. They walked off with cattle, and in fact everything they wanted.

Hoping that everything is O.K. and that you will write soon. I will close.

Pte. W.H. McCallister.
