Mont Joli, P. Q.

September 7, 1944

Dear Mom,

I'm drafted overseas!

Just this afternoon, a new draft came in and my name was on it. I've already had my medical, and I passed, and also got one of my first needles.

Surprised!!

It will be a few days before I leave here, but as soon as I get my Embarkation Leave I'll let you know. I'll have something like fourteen days before I report to Lachine. I intend to share a few days with you and later go to St. Thomas for the remainder of my time in Canada. I'll have about five or six days with you, and two or three with Joyce, since so much time will be spent travelling on the train.

This sets up a lot of plans. Stewart will be leaving for home tomorrow night. Although I'm a few days behind him, we will be leaving Lachine together, so we won't have to part after all, as I had said in my last letter. Things
are really happening around here. If I had not been on this Draft, I'd have been on the next one.

Well. I ate the cranberries and cream, and the home-made bread and butter. They were really swell, Mom. Thanks a a lot.

Love to all, Lewis.

P. S. Let Aunt Phoebe know about the plans. L .
