JULY 17, 1943
Dear Nan:
Here I am on night duty again. There is a couch here in the office, and it looks mighty good to me. I am night supervisor. Not such a bad job, but quite a responsibility. The night goes quickly though, for by the time I make three complete tours of the ward and write up my report, it's breakfast time. It was quite warm here today. Just received a new summer suit from Boston today. Had Miss Scott get it for me. We are changing color from blue to olive drab (a brownish-green). It fits quite well. Didn't get my hat yet-it's new style too. High crown, and with a visor. Had a V-mail from Helen last week. The address was San Francisco, so I imagine by now they are somewhere Pacific. You likely have had Eva home and gone by now. Seem like old times-did you have a bit of a squabble? Have been wondering how you and June made out in exams. Good, I hope. Sure wish I were going a'visiting you this summer. Would love a drink of buttermilk, and a piece of your mother's new bread and molasses. You know the effect of that, though. I have been waiting for a letter from you. So get busy, and dig up all the dirt you can. Tell your ma to take her pen in hand, too. Gladys writes quite often-V-mail, which I hate-but no one else writes much. This is all, as my paper is all.
Love, Frank
