Dear Mom & Dad,
Just received your letter of Sept 9. You should have received my wire, and the letter I wrote after I got settled. I hope this finds all the family well. I am okay at the moment. The rumours have it that we will get 7 days leave soon and then be whisked off to Canada for repat. and release. Right now we are parading every day for such things as clothing, X-ray, medical examinations, documentation, and a lot of other red tape for the records which seems senseless but is apparently necessary. Margaret wrote in answer to my wire and we hope to get together soon. I'll go to Aunt Molly's first, of course, because I feel sort of guilty about not really trying to do so last year. I'm sorry to hear that Jim has not got his release yet. It does sort of complicate things for them.
I'm going to try and get my "repat" postponed for at least six months because I want to make sure whether Margaret & I could make a go of it or not. She feels the same way, a little doubtful, but hopeful. I got a book from the church the other day. You can tell Mr. Inman if you see him, & thank him for me. I'll write him if I get the time. No, I don't think I know Stan's girl-friend. I've got to go now, so I'll write as often as I can, & wire if anything develops. So long for now,
Your loving son, -- Joe.
