Bovington,
August 18, 1918.
Dear Helen -:
I just made up my mind to drop you a few lines girlie, to see if I could locate you, though it will undoubtedly be a long time before I get the answer.
I left Canada on June 3, had a safe voyage and arrived on June 23rd. We were then put in a quarantine camp for a month, which was very disagreeable, as we were drilled steady all the time and couldn't go outside the camp. On July 27 we got 6 days leave and I spent a wonderful time scooting around Edinburgh, the Highlands and Glasgow. The scenery is certainly wonderful there and I certainly enjoyed. I was only in London a 1 /2 day, but intend spending my next leave there and see it as much as possible.
After leave we moved to our new camp where we are now and which has all modern conveniences, as electric lights, huts, straw mattresses & pillows, shows, etc.
I started my course yesterday as a driver and the start of it is really like school again, taking notes etc. It's very interesting to see the Tanks practising here going up and down holes etc. I like the army fine and only for the rations all would be well. Of course we haven't starved at all. Well, I guess I'd better halt. Be sure and answer.
Best Wishes to all.
Lovingly,
Will. x
