Dear Mother :-
I am well and hope you are the same. We landed here last night at 3 o clock and it was the toughest march I ever put in. Well I am where the guns roar now and have seen them shelling german aroplanes. They sure fill the air full of shells when one comes around. The big guns are going at present. They make things shake so you think there was an earth quacke. It is sure fine to see it here at night. It was almost like day when we came in last night. All along the line for miles they were sending up star shells. They light the country up for miles. It certainly is grand. How is every thing on the homestead this fall. I think I will be home this time next year I hope so anyway. Well I haven’t much to say so I will close hoping to hear from you soon. Your loving son 104727 Pte Nelson Woodruff.
