My dear Fern:

Your letter of May 11th has just reached me. It is the middle of a bright starlight night, and I am going to use a few minutes of my watch in order to answer it.

I hope you have before this received my letter of May 7th, telling you about Erroll, so I shall not repeat the details which I gave you in that letter.

It is most sweet of you to tell me that Erroll mentioned my name often in his letters. I value my friendship with him very dearly.

Thank you very much for the papers; they are always welcomed by all.

You will be glad to hear that the men of "A" Company and the regimental snipers whom Erroll commanded for the last two months have expressed their high regard end devotion to Erroll by raising of their own accord, amongst themselves, a very considerable sum to be used in some way for a memorial. We concluded that a tablet in his Toronto Church would be most fitting. I have placed the matter in Father’s hands, as he is in England and can quite easily look after it for us. A letter from Father to-night tells me that he has written to Erroll’s father for some particulars.

Thank you for your kind wishes. May God bless you and keep you brave. Your sincere friend,

George.
