Dear Mr. Robertson,:-

Although I think we have never met in person, I feel that I ought to know both yourself and. Mrs. Robertson, for I have heard so much about you through the various members of Dr. Murray’s family. But I have now another link of connection, through my associations with your nephew and namesake overseas, Lt. Col. Robertson of the 9th.Bn. Can. Engineers. You heard from him, I am sure, telling of the simple little service in which we cooperated, shortly before my recall from France to England, and eventually back to Canada. I should have written to you sooner, since my return, but I have been hoping for some possible occasion when I might see you and give you fuller detail about the re-interment of your boy’s body. Perhaps I may still have that privilege. I need only say now, that my part was only a small one, but I was so glad to be able to represent the same Church, and the old family friendship, in giving Christian burial in a British Cemetery to the mortal remains of such a valiant comrade and noble-hearted son of the Home-land. His cousin Col. Robertson, made all the arrangements and these were carried out with all possible reverence and respect by a party of Engineers from the 9th Battalion.

I am very sorry that the joyousness of this Christmas Season will have mingled with it this Element of Sorrow in the Experience of your family Circle, but I rejoice with you all in the splendid Service and Sacrifice of your Son, helping as it did, to make possible the present Peace, which we trust may be permanent and ending.

Your Son, Eric, is held in very happy memory in the Murray household here, and I am asked to include with my own, the sympathetic regards and Cordial Greetings to Mrs. Robertson and yourself.
