BRITISH OFFICERS' CLUB,
Y.M.C.A.
A.P.O. No. 1, B.E.F.
Le Havre
3/12/16.

Dear Mother:-

I wrote to you from Brighton telling you that we were leaving Southampton on Thur. last, we arrived here on Fri. morning but leave to-night. This is I suppose a typical continental city, all French, and I am having quite a time trying (and with fair success to make myself understood. I left my trunk, suit-case and travelling bag at Seaford with instructions to have my name in full painted on them and forwarded to
Mrs. J.S. Herson (Nee Firtvoye of Montreal)
            34 Russell Gardens
            Golders Green
            London

She is a Montreal girl and is married to my Sergeant, at least who was my Sergeant in the 159th. He wrote her asking her if my things might be left there and she replied that they might.

They will be more apt to look after them than if in a large place or if left with the Battalion.

Will write again as soon as we arrive at the 38th (it is in 4th Division, not 3rd as I told you). There are 6 other officers going there whom I know.

Yours affcty.,
Alex.
Love to all.
