Rev. Alexander Rowat,
St. Lambert, Que.

My dear Sir:-

It is with most sincere sorrow that I read of the death of your son Alex in yesterday’s papers, and I desire to extend my deepest sympathy to Mrs. Rowat, yourself and all the members of your family.

I think I can safely say that apart from Mr. A.L. Herbert, of Cobalt, I was more closely associated with Alex than any other person in the north country. I met him when I first came north some eight years ago, and having both worked and lived with him I had ample opportunity to know him very intimately.

I find it impossible to express my feelings in a letter. While you and yours have lost a son and a brother I too have lost in Alex’s death all that a brother could be. He was true as steel, faithful as ever mortal man could be and over ready with the strong arm to assist or the kindly word to cheer and advise.

The high esteem in which he was held is evidenced by the many expressions of regret which I have heard since the sad news became known.

May I express the hope that the fact that Alex died doing his duty in the cause of all that is right may be of same consolation to you and yours.

Sincerely yours,
Douglas B. Greig.
